Giorgos Xylouris, or Psarogiorgos, is a leading performer of Crete’s traditional music, and a composer who draws on and expands the deep musical culture of his island. He plays lute (or laouto), and sings, following in the footsteps of his father Psarandonis and uncles Psaronikos and Psarogiannis, distinguished and innovative musicians. Psarogiorgos plays the lute as a solo instrument, in contrast to the traditional accompaniment role the lute has in Cretan music. He joins us with his son Nick in the mountains of Crete for a song about love and life.
