Dimitris Sgouros is a lyra-player from Agios Nikolaos in Eastern Crete "who is the best living example of the style of his region", and an elementary school teacher. He has released a multi volume cd entitled "Songs and Melodies from Crete 1860-1910", as well as DVDs and other learning materials for children. Sgouros has spent years trying to rescue the old songs and dances of Crete from extinction.
